We appraise on-site or will execute an online appraisal, photographs on location and valuation documents pertaining to paintings, sculpture, etchings, limited editions, drawings, original lithographs, serigraphs, woodblocks and linocuts, etc.
Through the postal service you will receive an "original" printed standard format A4 document, (see sample), and a file copy. Should a photo of frame be provided, the framed item is shown: (see small inset). When appropriate, a zoomed-in high definition detail may also be illustrated. Finally the documents are signed and dated by the authorized fine art gallery art appraiser.
For Assessments up to A$2,500: There is a flat minimum rate of A$50 for online appraising. (See details below).
Value over A$2,500: There is a sliding scale as follows:- 2% of the 1st A$2,500 plus 1% of the next A$32,500 (over A$2,500), plus 0.5% of the rest over A$35,000.
Travel Cost: A$80/hr plus A$1.20/km by motor vehicle.
- It is prudent to view items physically, however due to the high cost of travel, trips are confined to the Sunshine Coast. Prior to making the journey, the round trip shall be paid for in advance, calculated and in accordance with the travel costs quoted above.
- The second part of the charges, i.e., for the actual valuation document itself, is paid prior to it's dispatch.
- If the item to be valued is a flat artwork, prior to making arrangements for an assessment, we recommend you check the item with a strong magnifying glass. If the characteristic "dot matrix" of a photo offset lithographic print is evident, (perhaps even under the paint), then the issue needs to be discussed on the phone initially. It could save you the cost of a visit by the assessor.
- Valuations can of course be made for works over $2,500 by an online appraiser in the same way as it is done for items under $2,500. The valuation document will then however be assigned the caveat, that no physical assessment was executed.
- Physical appraisals are not made at the gallery.

In addition to the forgoing, we need the following miscellaneous details:
- The picture dimensions (height x width) in centimetres.
- If framed, the frame dimensions (height x width) in centimetres and condition. If damaged, send a close-up photo. Is it the original frame?
- Artist's name in full.
- Full title of painting and it's location. Is it written on the backing? Is the name on the canvas? Is it on a plaque?
- Any apparent physical damage to the artwork. Describe as best you can, so we can estimate the repair cost. A close-up photo of the damage would simplify the appraisal.
- If the work is presumed to be a painting on canvas, one of the close-up photos should be taken in an area of the canvas where the painter has applied a minimum-of paint or no paint at all. This can help us to confirm if the item is genuine or not. Check if the item is perhaps a digital Giclee reproduction on canvas.
- Medium employed. If you don't know exactly, we suggest it may be written on the original receipt. Otherwise we will work off the photos and artist history.
Photos:
An inexperienced photographer should simply take the artwork out in the driveway on a sunny day in open shade with neutral colour surroundings. Prop the artwork up against a wall or small step ladder, (so that you can move around to get the best light). In order to avoid scuffing the edge of the painting, sweep the concrete first and lay down a piece of neutral colour corrugated cardboard or similar. If the artwork is under glass, (in particular), tilt it so as to avoid reflection of sky or trees in particular, and reflection of the cardboard. As photographer we suggest you wear something beige. (As an approximation, set the focal length on the lens barrel to 45 mm. Please don't use an on-camera flash device).
Re-touching:
We have software skills which may allow us to rectify photographic errors you may not be able to avoid.

It is suggested that masterpieces such as this fine example by Australian (Victorian) painter, Walter Magilton, should be insured.
